Flores Dominant in FSF 21 Main Event!

January 10, 2020 – Boise, Idaho

SBG Idaho athlete, Darrell Flores, turned in a stellar performance in the main event of Front Street Fights 21, battering Oregon’s Quinten Wyland across all three rounds to earn a dominant unanimous decision victory.

Both fighters quickly take center cage, with Flores (8-5 MMA, 2-1 FSF) utilizing deft head movement to walk down the longer Wyland (3-3 MMA, 0-1 FSF). Speedy punches and kicks from Flores land early. Wyland responds in kind, but is countered by the quicker Flores. A strong blitz from Flores puts Wyland against the cage, where he secures an easy double leg takedown. Wyland secures halfguard, where he transitions to a leglock, prompting Flores to attack one of his own. Both fighters transition to outside heelhooks before Wyland bails on the attempt and climbs to the top position. Flores finds himself entangled momentarily before using the position to sweep back to top. Landing in halfguard, Flores immediately attacks Wyland’s left arm with a kimura, nearly securing the hold as the round ends.

Round two begins with Flores again walking his opponent down and countering effectively when Wyland opens up with offense. Wyland attempts to be more active with his kicks, but Flores is reacting well and mixing up his attack with punches to the body and legs. The damage is beginning to add up and Wyland is becoming tentative. Another burst from Flores drives Wyland to the cage where he secures another quick takedown. Flores immediately goes to work on top from halfguard, alternating between attacking Wyland’s left arm with a kimura and landing strong punches. Flores eventually passes to side control where he lands several strong elbows to end the round.

The final round sees both fighters come out aggressively, but Flores is just a bit faster and stronger in the exchanges. A big blitz from Flores sends Wyland against the cage where Flores unleashes a furious volley of uppercuts and body shots. Wyland is hurt, but manages to remain standing and secure the clinch. Flores secures a takedown once again and settles into halfguard where he resumes his steady ground and pound. Wyland manages to work back to his feet with roughly 15 seconds remaining, but Flores keep him pinned to the cage as the final horn sounds. Fantastic fight from both men! Final scores from the judges are 30-27, 30-27, and 30-26 in favor of Flores! For their efforts, both men received Fight of the Night honors!
